Cameron Executives in Residence

These following professors are distinguished as Executives in Residence.

The Executive in Residence program allows students to learn from leaders in their fields who have a lifetime of experience in the corporate world. These senior executives teach classes and maintain a constant presence on campus, imparting real-life professional insights to students in an academic setting and sharing their successes and missteps learned along the way.


Barbara Biehner

Barbara Biehner

Ms. Biehner joined the university as the Director of External Programs for the Cameron School of Business in 2006 following an extensive career in health care administration with over 25 years as the COO or CEO of hospitals as well as Senior Vice President of a specialty pharmaceutical company. Along with the capacity of Executive in Residence she is a member of the Cameron Executive Network and the Resume Assistance Program.

David Jessen David Jessen David Jessen, Executive in Residence, joined the Department of Accountancy and Business Law in August 2008 after a 35 year career in public accounting. David worked for the national accounting firm Ernst & Young for most of his career. During his career he worked with large pharmaceutical, biotech, manufacturing, telecom and real estate companies. Examples of public companies which David worked closely with include Glaxo Smith Kline, Salix Pharmaceuticals, Trimeris Pharmaceuticals, and Inspire Pharmaceuticals. He still serves on the Board of Directors for Wake Med Hospitals in Raleigh and the North Carolina Museum of Art Foundation in Raleigh. David is a licensed CPA and received his accounting degree from the University of New Mexico. He also completed an Executive Development Program at Harvard University

Lucian (Skip) Jones

Lucian (Skip) Jones Mr. Jones has been a Lecturer at CSB since August of 1998. He is also Co-Director of the Cameron Executive Network. He has served as Director and on the Executive Committee and the Compensation and Governance Committee of The Nash Engineering Company. Previously, he was a partner at Shearman & Sterling in New York, NY. Mr. Jones was also an Instructor in Business Law at the University of Maryland in the Republic of Vietnam. Mr. Jones has been admitted as an attorney to the state bars of New York and North Carolina.

Dr. Richard Morrison

Richard Morrison

Dr. Richard G. Morrison, Ph.D., is a retired international executive of Eli Lilly and Company, a global pharmaceutical company. He was with Lilly for over 30 years, living in eight different countries, and having general management responsibilities for over 70 countries during his Lilly International career. Following his retirement from Lilly, Dr. Morrison became an Executive in Residence in the Cameron School of Business at UNCW. Indeed, he was the first person to become a member of the CSB in this capacity. He served in this position for six years, after which he retired (his second retirement). However, he returned to the CSB to teach International Business on a full-time basis in 2007 and continues to do so, again as an Executive in Residence. During all of his CSB teaching, he has been very involved with his many students as a teacher and personal advisor. He continues to be a professor who is highly interested in helping students learn skills that will help them achieve successful business careers. His door is always open to students who wish to discuss their futures. Dr. Morrison has been on the CSB Executive Advisory Board for several years, and remains on the board to-date. Dr. Morrison has served on numerous USA and International Corporation Boards, all of which have been involved in global business. Indeed, he continues to serve on Corporate Boards, both USA and European Companies, as well as University Boards, and Community-Related Boards. He is married to the former Belinda Gray. They have four children and eight grandchildren, the oldest being a third-year student at a UNCW.

Thomas Simpson Tom Simpson Dr. Thomas D. Simpson, Executive in Residence, joins the Department of Economics & Finance after his retirement from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, DC. He received his A.B. in economics from the University of Minnesota and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago. Dr. Simpson has focused his professional career on monetary policy and financial markets—serving as a senior official at the Federal Reserve Board and to the Federal Open Market Committee. He has been a resident advisor to the Central Bank of Russia and is a principal advisor to the Central Bank of Iraq. He has published articles in various professional journals and is author of "Money, Banking, and Economic Analysis."

Edward Topor

Edward Topor Mr. Edward S. Topor received his M.S. in 1968 from University of Southern California, Los Angeles; and B.S. in 1964 from United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. Prior to becoming an Instructor, Mr. Topor was President and Founder of SCM Consulting, a boutique consulting company focused on Supply Chain Management. Mr. Topor's "Supply Chain Assessment Methodology" was published by APICS in the 1998 and 1999 International Conference Proceedings. He also presented the paper at the conference. Prior to consulting, Mr. Topor served as CIO of The Options Clearing Corporation. In June 2005, Mr. Topor successfully completed the Six Sigma "Black Belt" course.

Dr. Dick Verrone

Dr. Dick Verrone Prior to 1998, when he began teaching at CSB, Mr. Verrone had a 30 year career in banking and financial services. He has published articles in the RMA Journal, American Banker, and Community Banking Quarterly and has also written two books on risk management. He has extensive speaking experience to national, regional and local groups of up to 400, including regulators and bank examiners. He is a retired Marine Corps officer with 20 years service.

Prior to joining the Cameron School of Business Mr. Berlin had a 30 plus year career in sales beginning as an Account Executive with Merrill Lynch and Paine Webber and spending over 20 years with IBM as a Account Manager and Client Executive. He received numerous awards for his sales and leadership accomplishments. He also held positions as adjunct instructor with two community colleges during his career. Mr. Berlin was deeply respected and loved by his students and mentees.
