ISOM / CSC Advisory Board

The Information Systems and Operations Management (ISOM) and Computer Science (CSC) Advisory Board works to improve the quality of our graduates in order that they are sought by employers.

It currently is comprised of 25 executives of the business community from both the Information Technology, Operations Management and professional fields.

 

Mission

The ISOM/CSC Advisory Board works to improve the quality of the undergraduate and graduate programs. In addition the board provides for the exchange of emerging issues of concern to Information Technology and Operations Management professionals in the UNCW service area and increases faculty awareness of current trends in industry.

Advisory Board Goals for 2006-2008

  1. Increase the quality of our undergraduate and graduate students by:
    1. Enhancing opportunities for internships between industry and ISOM/CSC
    2. Periodically reviewing the current undergraduate and graduate curriculum to insure relevance and currency to the business community needs
    3. Encouraging presentations by business professionals in the classroom
    4. Providing a conduit for our students to meet industry professionals
    5. Increasing student participation in real world projects with industry and faculty guidance
  2. Increase the value of membership for our corporate members by:
    1. Providing access to our best students for internships and employment
    2. Being a conduit for the Wilmington Information Technology and Operations Management community to share best practices
    3. Encouraging special interest groups that meet between meetings
    4. Continually review and disseminate the list of current job skills and technologies needed by employers
  3. Increase dialog between industry and faculty by:
    1. Increasing tours of local facilities
    2. Developing research opportunities and/or summer faculty internships with industry
    3. Building a process to share industry expertise with faculty and likewise faculty expertise with local industry
